只能留在回忆里的传统戏院
昔日怡保戏院的辉煌繁华时光，留下了许多的美好回忆；以前的拍拖胜地除了逛公园外就是看戏。在怡保市区就有：丽都，丽士，东方，大光，中山，京都，国泰，奥迪安，宝石，星光，大华，豪华，金星等。 。 。
老一辈的怡保人应该还记得在戏院全盛时段的车水马龙人来人往的热闹气氛。戏院外摆卖的小贩，美味的零食如糖果、酸梅、酸姜、口香糖、瓜子、咸花生等。小吃如玉蜀黍、水煮花生、莲蓬、豆腐花、糯米饭、罗吔、渌渌、雪球、樽装“荷兰水”等。除此之外，也有售卖当时的香烟牌子如：Marlboro, Camel, Rothmans, 555, Lucky Strike，Benson & Hedges等。
当时即将上眏的剧照会裱在戏院外竖立的广告板上或刊登在报纸上；写着即日或不日上眏；工作人员也会到处派有关剧情的宣传单“街招”。
那时的座位分为一号位、二号位、特别位等，戏票价钱也从几十仙到约2元。特定的日子还有半夜场和特别场。那个年代到只有少数有冷气设备的戏院看电影，是一种奢侈的享受；当然票价也不便宜。开场时，观众会把戏票交给查票员撕下，票根留着。如果已关上灯，会有工作人员拿手电筒带位到一排排的椅子。
首先上眏的是预告片，观众冒着被木虱咬到的风险还有长头发会被人剪掉或粘口香糖的传说跟着剧情心情上下起伏；最恐怖的还是不同版本的鬼故事，让很多人上厕所都要找人陪。
每当散场时，灯光会重开；观众起身离座时的噼噼啪啪声（椅子自动合起来），地上散落一地的瓜子壳、身上的残留二手香烟味和不幸被木虱咬到的痕迹。散场后还会听到观众讨论剧情的声音或哭红的双眼。
今天，这些传统大戏院，不是拆除，就是变成娱乐场所或餐厅，热闹的情景只能长存在回忆中。
